So this is my Niv-Mizzet deck. My goal was to make a flavorful deck based on the idea of drawing cards, the number of cards in my hand and in my opponents' hand. It's rather playable, pretty violent and a lot of fun (I like to draw cards, you see).

Any comments and suggestions welcome :)

General
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

Creatures
Aeon Chronicler
Apprentice Wizard
Arcanis the Omnipotent
Body Double
Clone
Consecrated Sphinx
Graceful Adept
Izzet Chronarch
Jushi Apprentice
Kami of the Crescent Moon
Mulldrifter
Myojin of Seeing Winds
Nucklavee
Psychosis Crawler
Sokenzan Spellblade
Soramaro, First to Dream
Vesuvan Shapeshifter

Sorceries
Ancestral Vision
Call to Mind
Inner Fire
Invoke the Firemind
Mind Spring
Prosperity
Spiraling Embers
Time Reversal
Time Spiral
Time Warp
Trade Secrets
Wash Out
Windfall
Winds of Change

Instants
Cerebral Vortex
Evacuation
Gaze of Adamaro
High Tide
Overwhelming Intellect
Reverberate
Runeflare Trap
Sudden Impact
Turnabout
Twincast
Wild Ricochet

Enchantments
Archmage Ascension
Forced Fruition
Rhystic Study
Thought Reflection

Artifacts
Anvil of Bogardan
Elixir of Immortality
Empyrial Plate
Feldon's Cane
Font of Mythos
Howling Mine
Isochron Scepter
Ivory Tower
Library of Leng
Mirari
Sapphire Medallion
Sensei's Divining Top
Venser's Journal

Planeswalkers
Jace Beleren
Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Lands
Cascade Bluffs
Island (x23)
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Mountain (x10)
Reliquary Tower
Shivan Reef
Steam Vents

So this is pretty much a midrange deck. It's not too powerful, rather slow and not optimized to go for the Niv-Mizzet combo kill, but it can still pull its weight in a lengthy multiplayer game and kill opponents in a lot of ways. For example:

- Fill up opponents' hands then kill them with Sudden Impact (and others)
- Maro aggro: some creatures get really big when I've got lots of cards in hand
- Drawing lots of cards while Niv-Mizzet is on the battlefield
- Milling

The big weakness is that I'm getting opponents to draw a lot of cards, therefore enabling their deck to work at 100% capacity most of the time. But that's what makes it fun for everyone!

trinket mage has lots of targets here i'd suggest him for the deck

also i'd suggest you don't help your opponent draw lol
take out all the 'target player takes damage equal to cards in hand" spells and put in more ramp or draw :]

The 'everyone draws' stuff suffers a bit when you don't have the black to really punish them.
Anywho, Knollspine Dragon is my favorite card to pair with Niv. More effective when cloned, so you save a few mana for draw spells.

my niv deck was very control oriented, and i ran a heavy counter package bc at the place i play at niv is just one of those generals that draws you immediate hate as soon as ppl see who your general is. so without changing your deck too much, id recommend to limit the card draw to just yourself.Blue Sun's Zenith and Recurring Insight are two card draws you might think about adding. Mind Over Matter quickly became my favorite card in my niv deck, can hold off angry opponents quite well. Teferi's Puzzle Box makes games interesting and also gives you a steady way to draw cards if niv is out. those are my suggestions, as i said my deck was a good bit more control oriented than yous appears, but i think these cards could help you. good luck man, have fun with it.

Sakashima, the Imposter seems good as a clone of Niv Mizzet.

Tezzeret the Seeker plays nicely with your artifact suite of howling mines. Add Temple bell for more synergy!

Deserted Temple and Minamo, School at Water's Edge play nicely with Mikokoro, and Mimano also plays nicely with Niv Mizzet.

You might want to play Expedition Map and Tolaria West to dig up some of these pieces. Cephalid Coliseum is another good land that might be missing.

Words of War might be a reasonable Niv Mizzet substitute for when you can't find Niv. I'd also consider both Lightning Greaves and Hall of the Bandit Lord. Giving Niv Mizzet haste makes sure that, worst case scenario, you'll get your card back when he dies. Greaves even protects him from targeted removal.

Spinerock Knoll might let you go broken, especially with Knollspiine Dragon underneath. I don't know how many cards you tend to draw, but Shelldock Isle might be worthwhile too.

Hopefully that's helpful. I've been wanting to build this for awhile, so I might come back to reference/discuss this list more.

Bump.

Very curious about this build with a focus on Sudden Impact type damage. There's a surprising number of cards out there that have a similar effect (Gaze of Adamaro, Spiraling Embers, Runeflare Trap). Can we name any others?

I'd love to know of success/failure in building a Niv deck around this type of damage. No interest in the infinite combo route, and this seems like a fun alternative. IS IT VIABLE?

knollspine dragon/tolarian winds+psychosis crawler can work in your favour
